Reference field for payouts

Dear members,

It is now possible to add a proper reference to any payout request via EU-transfer. By atributing a reference to a payout, the transfer can be categorized more easily once the money has been credited to your bank account.. The reference field can be freely determined and may contain up to 60 characters.

Reminder: A payout can be requested in the members area under points > payout.

New eBesucher Add-on

Dear members,

The development of the new eBesucher add-on is finished. The add-on is now available to all our members. It can be downloaded in the members area by clicking on Traffic exchange > Surfbar > Firefox add-on.

Why do I need an Add-on?

The eBesucher add-on is a software for the Mozilla Firefox browser, which optimizes a surfing session with the eBesucher surfbar. In order to improve the earnings and to increase the stability of the surfbar, we recommend using the add-on instead of the normal link to the surfbar.

Since the previous add-on had a limited functionality, the new eBesucher add-on was designed from the ground up. It also comes with a completely new source code and a new layout.

New Features

Popup-Blocker, Cache and Cookie Cleanerrestarter

The most important new feature is the integrated cache and cookie cleaner. This allows you to automatically delete locally stored browser data, which improves the stability of the surfbar. Both the cache and the cookie cleaner can be set to automatically run every 6 hours, every day, week, or every month. Furthermore, the add-on is able to automatically close all tabs and additional popups. Simply activate the Popup-Blocker to proceed.

Using the add-on together with the restarter

A major disadvantage of the old add-on was that it could not be used together with the eBesucher restarter. As soon as the Firefox browser had crashed, a manual restart of the browser became necessary, else you would no longer earn any points.

The new add-on is now 100% compatible with the eBesucher restarter!

Please bear in mind that the add-on can not guarantee that your browser will not crash anymore. In order to run the surfbar without being interrupted, we recommend using the add-on in addition with the restarter.

Further modifications

  • The textlinks, the timer and the point earnings are now displayed.
  • The browser tab is highlighted graphically.
  • The add-on runs stable again and is less likely to crash.

What you should know

add-on_settingsAdvantages compared to the normal surfbar

  • The add-on can display sites that open a framebreaker. Those sites get you twice as many points.
  • The add-on is immune against sites that open a framebreaker or a JavaAlert window.
  • More active websites are available when using the add-on.

The add-on is compatible with Firefox version 31 or higher. It is however recommended to always use the latest Firefox browser.  A more complete description of the add-on as well as a manual that will guide you through the installation process, can be found in our wiki.

eBesucher API

Dear members,

We have successfully completed the development of the new eBesucher API, it is now available to all our members.

With the new eBesucher API, we intend to expand our reach on the marketing field. In addition to the customer support regarding our active members and the maintenance of the traffic exchange, we seek to include further internet platforms into the world of advertising. In short: eBesucher no longer acts uniquely as a publisher for sponsors and advertisers. It is now possible to use our surfbar on external partner sites and web portals.

With the new eBesucher API, we will offer the concept and our know-how to all of those who are interested. Doing so, we intend to create a new form of advertising, which means an unrestricted added value to all the webmasters and surfbar users.

How it works

A website (external API partnersite) uses the eBesucher API and offers its members access to eBesucher surfbar. An independent surflink will be assigned to each member of the respective partnersite, whereas each surflink has its own and independent earnings statistic. All of the earned points will be added to the eBesucher account of the API partnersite. From here, he will be able to request a payout through the eBesucher members area.

In return, the owner of the partnersite can provide a bonus payment of his choice to his members.

For external partnersites
eBesucher nowadays counts more than 600.000 members and has attracted – not least because of this – a wide range of international and national sponsors that advertise their website within the traffic exchange.

In particular for the German speaking members of your web project, we offer an excellent occupancy rate and therefore an ideal earning opportunity. In addition, we cover the costs for the server as well as the maintenance of the surfbar. We also provide the technical equipment, the end customer support and offer a fully-functioning traffic exchange and a free access to the API.

Customized branding
The eBesucher surfbar can be freely customized according to the needs of the owner of the partnersite. This includes in particular a customized  branding, where the logo or a recognition feature of your website will be integrated into the surfbar. It is also possible to place a backlink in form of an advertising banner or to adjust the background of the steering frame (header of the surfbar):

For surfbar users
For those who are using the surfbar, the new API allows you to earn all kinds of things. External partnersites might offer you a bonus payment – a wide range of earning opportunities will be at your disposal. Depending on the kind of earning opportunity that you choose to gain, you will be able to use the surfbar on different external partnersites.

API properties
The API allows you to monitor your earnings in the traffic exchange. Hence, the earnings in the traffic exchange can be exported, whereas you do not need to log into the members area. The following values can be retrieved via the API:

  • List of the used surflinks
  • Earnings statistic of the whole account (all surflinks)
  • Earnings statistic of a single surflink

In addition, you can retrieve an earnings report which lists the earnings of an account within a user-defined time window.

API quotas
Using the API is free for all eBesucher members. However, since the API produces additional traffic and server costs, we are planning to increase the allotment of API queries for members that have signed up for a premium or a premium plus membership. Still, if you choose to use the API moderately, a standard membership will definitely provide you enough free requests. We invite you to discuss the allocation of API requests on our message board, tell us how we should handle this.

You can find a manual in our wiki. It explains you how to use the API and gives you detailed infos about the different features.

Our support would be happy to send you additional information by email or advise you by phone.

New Surfbar

Dear eBesucher members,

As most of you have already noticed, we have updated the surfbar. Not only the appearance has changed and we hope that the new layout will be more convenient for all of you. The following modifications have been applied:

  • The size of the control frame has been reduced, leaving more space for the displayed websites. Furthermore, the colour of the control frame is more neutral in order to shift the focus on the website instead of the upper frame.
  • Each displayed website now comes with a status, which is displayed in the top left corner. The status contains the name of the website, the amount of points that you receive, and the remaining time that the site is displayed.

Status (example):

Our technicians are currently working on implementing the status into the Firefox addon. Within the context of these changes, we ware going to release a new version of the addon, which will also provide additional features. Stay tuned!

The Framebreaker-Test

Dear eBesucher-member,

We are back with a technical note and present you one of our tools: the framebreaker-test.

What is a framebreaker?

A framebreaker is a small program (JavaScript) that – when opening a website in a frame – suppresses the other frames. In this case only the website that loads the framebreaker will be displayed, all the other content of the frameset is suppressed and disappears from the screen. As a result, the surfbar is unable to continue its tasks and vanishes. As most of you already know the registration of the so-called framebreaker-websites is not permitted for technical reasons as long as they are not explicitly marked as such.

Background information, the surfbar and the AddOn

Let us start with the definition of the term “frame”: a frame is a subsection of a HTML-page where further HTML-pages can be integrated. The total of those frames is called a frameset. Our eBesucher-surfbar also contains several frames. In the top end frame, we have the control-frame of our surfbar. Underneath, there are up to two other frames which display the respective websites of our advertisers. In order to have those websites displayed in the normal surfbar, they can not contain any framebreakers. It is allowed to promote framebreaker-websites but they will only be displayed to those users who use the eBesucher Firefox AddOn instead of the normal surfbar. The Firefox AddOn was developed so that websites that open a framebreaker can be promoted in the traffic exchange.

The framebreaker-test

In order to avoid any involuntary registration of framebreaker-websites in the traffic exchange, we provide you a framebreaker-test. This tool allows you to see for yourself whether your website contains a framebreaker. In order to access the framebreaker-test, enter your pagelink in the URL field and click the button “Send!”. Example: if your webpage is called “” the URL field should contain the text “”. By clicking the “Send!”-button a new tab opens. If the following notification (see screenshot) is displayed permanently, your website is free of framebreakers and can be promoted on eBesucher without activating the framebreaker-option.

Framebrecher-Test bestanden

Please note: It sometimes happens that the framebreaker-test was successful (the frame did not disappear) but the tested website can not be loaded (you get an error message or a blank website). In this case, you would have to activate the framebreaker-option in order to add the site to the exchange, as it will otherwise not be displayed. It can also be, that the respective website provider does not want his website to be promoted through eBesucher. In this case, you will also only see a blank (white) website or an error message.

My website contains a framebreaker, what to do now?

If the message illustrated above disappears and only the tested website is shown, the website contains a framebreaker and can therefore not be promoted in the traffic exchange without activating the framebreaker-option. So if you want to promote your website in the traffic exchange please make sure that the question “Site uses a framebreaker and cannot be displayed in a frameset” is answered with “Yes”.Framebreaker

Does my website contain Exit-Popups or JavaAlert-Windows?

The framebreaker-test allows you to also check whether your website contains JavaAlert-Windows (a message window that opens when closing the website) or Exit-PopUps (a Popup that opens when closing the website). Quick reminder: Your website may contain a Popup as long as it was marked as such when being registered. However, JavaAlert-Windows are not allowed because they immediately stop the surfbar. Both JavaAlert-Windows and Exit-Popups open when you close a website. By clicking on the button “Webseite ausblenden” it can be checked within a framebreaker-test how your website reacts when you close it.

If the website disappears when clicking the button and no JavaAlert-Window or Exit-Popup is opened, your website has passed the test successfully! An Exit-Popup is allowed as long as you have indicated it during the registration process. Please keep in mind that ionly one popup is allowed.

By the way: It is not possible to promote framebreaker websites in our mail exchange.

You can find further information about eBesucher in our Wiki.

Deactivation of the Transfer Feature

Dear members,

After a longer reflection period, we have decided to discontinue the point transfer feature. In the near future, it will thus no longer be possible to transfer points from one user to another – either in the members area, nor through the interface. The traffic exchange points (BTP) and the mail exchange points (MTP) can then solely be transferred between eBesucher and a user. Those of you who decide to advertise through eBesucher will still be able to purchase points through the ‘Buy advertising’ -section. Any member that chooses to exchange his points into money will still be able to do so through the members area (click on ‘Points’ and ‘Payout’ in the members area). Furthermore, it speaks for itself that eBesucher can still be used to generate points and to turn them into advertising.

We are aware that deactivating the transfer feature means a constraint and that members and site-owners alike will be affected of this. Nevertheless, this step is well thought through and we hereby plan to focus on our core business. We see the future of eBesucher in the online marketing business and the eBesucher points-system should exclusively serve the purpose of the traffic and mail -exchange.

The deactivation of the transfer feature will take place in two phases:

  • Transition period 1: It will still be possible to transfer points through the members area and the external interface until the 30/11/2014. On December the 1st, the transfer feature will be deactivated.
  • Transition period 2: Between the 01/12/2014 and the 15/12/2014, a point-transfer can only be done manually. On the 16/12/2014, the manual transfer function will be deactivated.

We kindly ask you to make necessary arrangements: if you wish to transfer points to other members, please do so before the transition period has expired. The transfer feature will be disabled on the 16th of December 2014.

We have created a Question & Answer -section in our wiki. In case you have any further questions, feel free to contact our support.

Option to set a minimum connection speed

Dear eBesucher member,

We have yet implemented a new feature for every premium advertiser and sponsor. eBesucher now allows you to filter those IP addresses which fall below a manually defined connection speed. Whenever the connection speed of a surfbar user is too low, the website that is promoted through the traffic exchange may not be able to be displayed completely, this can have an effect on the website statistics, as well as on the statistics of the advertisement partner.

If you choose to define a minimum connection speed, please enter the members area and click on ‘Traffic exchange’ and ‘Manage pages’. Next, choose the respective website and click on ‘Edit’. The ‘Connection speed’ -section lets you define the minimum connection speed of the user that accesses your website. If the connection speed does not meet the demands, the user will not be able to visit your website.

connection speed

Note to all users of the traffic exchange: Please make sure that you leave enough bandwidth for the traffic exchange. If your connection speed meets the demands of most advertisers, you will benefit of a larger pool of websites that can be displayed and you are less likely to run out of ‘active websites’ when using the surfbar. Do also keep in mind that even if your bandwidth is quite large, the effective connection speed can be very low in case your internet connection is used for a variety of activities.

Filtering of IP addresses which are located on a blacklist

Dear members,

With immediate effect, we now offer all our advertisers and sponsors the opportunity to filter those IP addresses that are listed on a DNSBL blacklist. The goal of such a blacklist is to collect IP addresses whose devices are infected with malware. This can be relevant for advertisers, since in terms of page load times and the average quality of the impressions, the traffic originating from those IP adresses can be below average.

We have however decided to not completely exclude such traffic from our service, since the terminal device (pc, laptop, etc.) can often not be assigned to a specific IP address. Especially mobile internet connections (UMTS and LTE), corporate networks, as well as hotspots and wireless Internet connections, which are usually connected to several devices and where the IP address can not be assigned to a particular terminal device, are affected of this. In addition, after an initilal registration on the DNSBL blacklist, IP addresses often remain listed for weeks, as their status is not being reviewed very often. When taking into consideration that a dynamic IP address is regularily assigned to a different user and device, the DNSBL Filter ultimately blocks legitimate traffic from accessing your site.

We therefore believe that every sponsor and advertiser should decide for himself, if he wants to ban IP addresses which are being listed on a blacklist. If you choose to activate the filter, please access the members area and click on ‘Traffic Exchange’ > ‘Manage Pages’, then access the website of your choice and click on ‘Edit’, choose the ‘Browser-Targeting’ -TAB and activate the field that blocks IP addresses which are listed on a DNSBL blacklist.
